Silver spoon used for style

My last trip to Leeds was a very productive shopping trip. A lovely crafts market lined a city street. A friend and I discovered a stall which sold handmade jewellery crafted from vintage cutlery.
Different, distinctive and individual, they are three qualities which I admire greatly! Therefore it is not surprising that I ordered and purchased my own vintage fork ring.  It was amazing to watch the artist create my ring from what used to be an item used for eating!

Here are some examples of fabulous artists which create these beautiful, precious pieces:

The reason I write this now is not only to celebrate, acknowledge and promote this innovative idea/ work but also to help my friend find out the contacts for this particular artist! Its horrible to loose your items especially if it is significant to you! On our holiday her special sugar spoon, silver ring was lost in the sand. Safe to say she was gutted!
So radiant readers if you were in Leeds for the market and know please contact me!
(We think the company is initially from London, possibly Covent Gardens! )
 Thank- you !

Colour Colour Colour Run

Yesterday my collaborative partner and I from XPOSE took the opportunity to go visit and photograph the colourful scenes of the Colour run London (.. and do some shopping of course !) .
This was a form of inspiration for our Dream in Colour photo-shoot so we wanted to see it first hand!

The competition our shoot was for: http://www.talenthouse.com/photograph-for-billabong
Our video to accompany our entries: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKfC6HiBJhQ

Photos from  our Billabong Girls Dream in Colour photo-shoot ( not our competition entries).

The company claim it to be the Happiest 5K on earth ... and they may just be right! Despite the extreame heat(... and the fact it was 5k! ) I did not see one face without a massive smile! Watching the colourful celebrations afterwards was very entertaining!
We intend to get more involved when possible! The next runs in Britain are:
21st July- Manchester
24th August- Belfast
14th September- Brighton
We highly recommend you even just go and watch! Don't wear your best clothes though - we managed to get a sprinkling of colour haha!

Fallen for Fall '13 Couture

Every significant event in the fashion calendar is swiftly transferred into mine. Looking through all the shows, although very time consuming is something I find really interesting and thoroughly enjoyable. Sad? To some maybe, but other's work really does help your own progression, and when you are as passionate about something as I am fashion you will understand.

Coming back from a fulfilled yet relaxing and super sunny holiday gave me a good does of the holiday blues, but knowing that I could spend my recuperation time catching up on all the Couture shows spurred me on.

Trends for the season were easily identifiable, as were the street style influences for each collection. For further info on the above keep your eyes peeled for future posts!

Screen shots as I see the shows:

Lots of drama and high performance of course!

What would Couture be without at least one signature super detailed gown?

Sleek silks, crisp edges and extreme attention to detail, only a Couture standard could pull this off!

The ever so slightly odd but ingenious is what Couture is all about!

Perhaps one of my favourite collections of Couture this season!

Still non-the-wiser why I find this so wacky and wonderful?!

Cruise or Resort, what collection would you wear away?

It only came to my attention a few months ago that some people are confused by the term Haute Couture. If that is the case for you do not worry check out my post on it and hopefully all will become clear!

I will admit that I too am STILL becoming associated with some fashion terminology!
Resort/ cruise collections are something which continued to baffle me up until recently.
So each year there are:
Couture shows : Spring
                           Fall ( Autumn)
Ready To Wear shows : Spring
                           Fall ( Autumn)
Pre-Fall: As the name suggests this features clothing which covers the gap between Summer weather and Autumn/Winter weather
Resort: Therefore, like Pre-Fall these collections bridge a gap; this time between Winter and Spring/Summer.

Resort collections are sometimes also referred to as Holiday/ travel collections and consist of Ready To Wear garments by some fashion brands/ houses, delivered in addition to their twice yearly main shows.
Originally designed for the more wealthy jet-setters, the collection now offers those who take their holidays in the winter a chance to buy garments suitable for warmer weathers. These collections usually enter the shops towards the end of Autumn-beginning of Winter time.  Furthermore, in recent times, due to fast fashion this has allowed fashion fanatics or summer lovers who have finished buying their winter wardrobes a chance to buy for the coming season.
So, now if you are either of the above you can do the same next season!

Bandit Bandanas

When you think of Bandanas what comes to mind? To me, automatically, dogs, in particular whippets wearing them. Following that cowboys. But will this summer and the seasons that follow change this association.
Revitalising this season at a street style level, more recent, especially resort catwalk collections have incorporated the neckerchief.

Mollie, and Polly sporting a bandanna on holiday.

However will people be able to accept the pirate, fancy dress associated garment as a fashion item?
So what's your opinion, should we band the bandanna?

Elle Exceeds Expectations

Opening my mail ordered September issue of ELLE I began to question myself. Was I that tired from my holiday that I had read the title wrong? Had I accidentally picked up Red Magazine or Vogue instead?  A double take assured me that no I had not. It was indeed Elle which was my bedtime reading.
Pixie Geldof- August issue Elle cover-girl

It appears, like it's cover girl this issue, Pixie Geldof, (coincidence I think not,) has matured in style and content. Do not misinterpret my words; I have always adored reading Elle... If I hadn't I wouldn't have subscribed to it for several years now! But there was something about August issue which screamed sophistication, which it arguably was more subtle with in past issues.
Perhaps this is due to the current and future fashions and lifestyles looking ever increasingly at elegance, workwear and quality?

Maybe modern art, in particular fashion photography movements have caused a presentational progression?

Or maybe the promotional content of the designer brands also has more demure than previous seasons, and so Elle have rejuvenated to fit with this?
Either way Elle has had a form of revamp in my opinion, which, from the advertisement of the next issue will continue.
I personally support this style change and can't wait for more!

Something Old, yet something new

The Old Tile Works officially opened on Saturday 29th June 2013.
Beautiful day, beautiful setting, beautiful produce (including scrumptious food) , what more could have been asked of the opening?!
I picked up a lovely Stella & Alf vest top.
Packaged to perfection, I know this will be part of my capsule wardrobe collection for many years to come!

The Old Tile Works now open  to the public daily 9am-5pm. I  certainly recommend a visit!
